30 Days Eating At Home Challenge: Week 2 Update
Post by
Nikky
on
Thursday, April 07, 2011
Well, we are two weeks into our Eating At Home for 30 days Challlenge and I have to admit that we already failed! We ate out on Saturday while getting things across town for my husband to go out of town for work. Then Monday after taking four boys to the mall the exchange a couple of items I didn't have it in me to go home and get dinner ready. It was six o'clock and the big boys were hungry, the baby was hungry and I was hungry too.
What it really comes down to for me is organization. If I have meals planned and ready to go I don't mind cooking. If five o'clock rolls around and I am just trying to come up with what I am making for dinner I won't get it done before 8 after feeding the baby (twice sometimes), keeping track of my big boys along with two or three neighbor kids, picking up the house after daycare and oh yeah breathing!
I will be sharing tomorrow about my SIL and I making freezer meals last weekend to help us be prepared. The story is good for a laugh even if you don't learn a thing!
If you are joining my family in this challenge, let me know how it is going for you. I'd love to hear your tips too!
Extreme Couponing Questions
Post by
Nikky
on
Thursday, April 07, 2011
We don't have cable so I didn't see last night's episode of Extreme Couponing on TLC but I thought I would address a few question that have come in after others have watched the show.
First of all while extreme couponing is very impressive, you can not have a $400 transaction couponed down to $6 on a weekly basis. Just like any other reality show, it is a unrealistic perspective. I wish I could do a 7 minute workout and look like a super model but if it was truly that simple wouldn't we all be on the runway! Couponing is a way for you to save money on the things you need and help your family's budget stretch. Couponing is not a sport in the Olympics so if you are saving yourself $10 a week using coupons than be proud of yourself. I share deals with you every day and I get about 15% of those deals for myself. I have a husband and four kids, a job so my life is way too busy to spend every waking moment shopping! If you have time and can spend 40+ hours a week shopping than that is great but if not don't feel like you aren't doing a good job because you are!
Okay, off my soap box and on to the questions...
Are there stores in Lincoln that double or triple coupons? That seems to be the key to being able to attain bargains like they do.
We have three stores in Lincoln that double coupons - Savemart, Village Market, and A St Market. They all accept manufacturer's coupon from the paper along with printables. They will double a coupon up to $.50 face value as long as it doesn't state "Do Not Double". They are very small stores that offer a few really good deals each week but it would be unlikely that you would want to do all your shopping there.
Where can I find printable coupons and how many can I print?
There are several sites to print coupons from and generally you are allowed to print two of each coupon. Occasionally you will only be able to print one and on lucky days you can print several. Once you have printed your limit you will get a message stating you have printed your max. Here is a list of the best sites...
Coupons.com
Smartsource.com
Redplum.com
Couponnetwork.com
Target.com
Shortcuts.com
Mambosprouts.com (organic grocery coupons!)
The other place to look is on the manufacturer's site directly or their Facebook page. They have coupons on their sites all the time and Facebook has turned into a big advertising platform.
How can I get more newspaper coupons?
There are a few ways to get more coupons each week. You can get the LJS delivered to your door for $52 for the Sunday/Wednesday edition for one year using the promo code "Chicks Dig Deals". You can go HERE to subscribe. You may get as many subscriptions at this rate as you would like but you do have to pay the $52 in full when you subscribe. I personally get four copies of the paper!
You can purchase coupons off of Ebay for a few cents for specific items. This is a great idea if you buy a lot of a product but be careful you aren't spending money on coupons that you won't end up using.
Ask your friends and neighbors for their inserts. My neighbors share their coupon inserts after they clip the ones they want. Their kids are grown and married so they don't buy a lot of the same products I buy so I usually get an extra coupon for all the ones I want. Don't worry I share my coupons with them too.
To me the newspaper is the simpliest way to get more coupons. I don't have to drive to a store to buy it, spend any time online looking for coupons to purchase or try to get them ordered in time for a two day sale which happens every week in this town!
If you have other questions send them to my inbox or join me on Saturday April 16th for a 2 hour class on how to coupon at Southeast Community College. Go HERE for more information.
Sunmart Coupon+Super Saver's Cereal+Pricematch at Walmart = ?
Post by
Nikky
on
Thursday, April 07, 2011
Okay, as I was feeding my "bambino" at 5 am this morning I was thinking through the Sunmart cereal coupon combined with Super Saver's ad priced at Walmart to get nearly FREE cereal deal. In the end this fabulous combo will not work and here is why...
Walmart's new coupon policy is to accept other stores manufacturer's coupons. The cereal coupon is not actually a manufacturer's coupon but a distributors coupon. The coupon is good only at Nash Finch supplied stores and states is not redeemable through General Mills.
However, Kara emailed me the prices some of the cereals that Sunmart has on sale this week and you can get a good deal on select Cheerios which are priced at $2.99
Buy six boxes (2 orig and 4 cinnmanon burst) priced at $2.99 each = $17.94The other cereals are between $3.50 and $5 so unless you just have to have them probably not a great deal.
Use in ad coupon to save $10
use 2 $.75/1 MQ HERE for Cinnamon Burst
use 2 $.55/1 MQ HERE for Cheerios
use 2 $.75/1 MQ HERE for Cinnamon Burst or
use $1/2 MQ 3/20 SS for any GM cereals
Final Cost for 6 boxes Cheerios plus $5 off milk and eggs as low as $3.89

From the Inbox: Can I Stack the Sunmart Deal with Super Saver's Price?
Post by
Nikky
on
Wednesday, April 06, 2011
I received an email about the cereal/milk/egg offer at Sunmart this week...
There is a coupon in today's SunMart ad "save $10 when you buy any 6 GM cereals in a single shopping visit bt 4/6 and 4/12" redeemable at Nash Finch supplid stores. GM cereals are on sale at super saver for $1.77 ea. Do you know if there's a way to combine these two offers? I'm new at this and still learning. Thanks
The answer to this question is unfortunately no. The coupon at Sunmart this week is specific to a Nash Finch store. In Lincoln Sunmart and Savemart are both Nash Finch stores. Savemart would likely not be a better deal unless they have an unadvertised markdown. Super Saver price matches but doesn't take coupons from another store for $ off amounts. There isn't any way to stack the two but it would be awesome if you could!
This being said, if there is a manufacturer's coupon in another stores ad and it doesn't state it is only redeemable at that store then you can use it anywhere. Sunmart often has manufacturer coupons in their ads that can be used anywhere so just be sure to read the fine print.
Keep your questions coming to my inbox or you can sign up for my next class and learn it all in two hours. I am always happy to help you save money!

Now that Spring has finally Sprung, the playing at the park season has begun. Vistaprint if offering
100 Mommy Cards for $1.99 (+ shipping & handling). They are perfect for setting up play dates or keeping in contact with your kids school friends over the summer. Send your mommy card to school with you child and they can pass it on to their friend who will hopefully remember to give it to their mom.
When we went to the Mall of America a couple of weeks ago I was wishing I had ordered some of these card. I literally about had a panic attack while we were there because I was so worried about losing one of my kids. I wrote our information on a piece of paper and had my boys put it in their pocket but it would have been nice to just pull out one of these cards with everything on it in case of an emergency.

I Love 1500 Thread Count Sheets!
Post by
Nikky

Monday, April 04, 2011
One of the perks of having a blog is getting to review products so when Lisa from 1500 Threads contacted me about trying out a set of sheets I was really excited. On top of the fact that I have never bought sheets over 400 thread count I had thrown out our spare set of sheets the night before because they had a tear.
My sheets arrived within two days so I was already impressed with the customer service I received. I was given the instructions to wash them and then sleep on them to see what I thought. I can say I have never been so happy to do laundry!
After washing them I made the bed and I literally clapped I was so excited to make my bed with such ease. Normally, making my bed is like wrestling an alligator because the sheets are never big enough for our mattress. It was so nice to not have to lift the corner of the mattress to try and get the sheets to fit like I usual.
As you can imagine having sheets that are 1500 thread count are more than divine! I usually buy the cheapest 400 thread count sheets and there is obviously no comparison. They are super soft and much "stronger" than my Walmart cheapos.
I know you are probably jealous at this point of my sheets but lucky for you Lisa is extending a great offer to all of you too. If you place your order from 1500 Threads using promo code CHKSDGDLS50 you will get 50% off your order making these fabulous sheets just $45-$55 which is an amazing price. I am ordering a second set because I can't imagine using my old sheets again!
Be sure to pass on this deal to your friends too. You can email this offer to your friends are pass it along on Facebook or Twitter. Just be sure to give them the CHKSDGDLS50 promo code so they get the great savings. Be sure to "like" 1500 Threads on Facebook too!
